Passenger Train Service in Mt. Holly

Postby Scott L » Fri May 29, 2015 10:13 am

It's been suggested that there is a long range plan to revive passenger train service in Mt. Holly. Some/All history of passenger train service in Mt. Holly might be found in this repository:

How does Mt. Holly feel about this idea? If we have lots of public support on this, would we want to consolidate public opinion in hopes to more quickly turn this "long range" plan into a "short range" one? If we have objection to this, would we care to attempt to get this kind of thing removed from the long range plan?

Per http://www.gastongazette.com/article/20 ... /150609902

"Belmont has pondered establishing trolley service for years as a way of linking Belmont Abbey College with the historic business district. The most logical solution is to use a long-abandoned spur of the old Piedmont and Northern Railway."

“Charlotte will have a streetcar soon, but it will be a modern one — not an older, historic one like this,” he said. “We think this is really going to set Belmont apart.”

Hm. Looks like Charlotte and Belmont have some visionary leadership to come up with this kind of idea. Not sure if it's a valid idea regarding costs and all, but it's bold to put it out there for debate.
