Anyone ever given any thought about what's going to happen to the old Riverbend power plant? Does anyone think Mount Holly will annex it and zone it Heavy Industrial and it would be eligible for a slaughterhouse or meat packing plant or something? Or could it get annexed and zoned residential or commercial? Who is involved from Stonewater to hear about what might be planned?

Looks like the Riverbend power plant location was indeed annexed into Mount Holly in 2014:

"Negotiations started in 1999 between the city and Duke Energy. It was agreed the city would annex the steam station, but it wouldn’t do so immediately. While most annexations take effect in six months or so, Duke and Mount Holly agreed to delay the effective date until June 30, 2014."

What do you think the city's planning department has for this parcel? Keep it heavy industrial? Re-zone it residential? A shopping mall? I know a Stonewater citizen unsuccessfully ran for City Council in 2015. When things start cooking up that way, who would represent the interests of this part of town? As we learned with the South Main St. widening project, once the public is generally aware of immediate projects, it's "too late" to change them as years of planning has already occurred. This annexation started in 1999. Someone has ideas and maybe plans -- what are they?
