Looking for help video recording public council meetings

Postby Scott L » Tue Aug 25, 2015 3:26 pm

We're trying out a new thing... video recording public council meetings. Though I can do the first 2 or more, it's inevitable that I'll be unable to attend some Monday meetings. What I need is a few volunteers that can help record these when I cannot. I've got the tripod and video camera and it's an easy thing to operate. All you do is sit next to the camera and be sure it captures this: http://youtu.be/BB9zt0irZQ0

I can handle everything else. I'd like to do this at least through the elections to see if there is public interest in this community service.

MyMtHolly.COM now has a new video camera with very good sound quality for improved recordings of the council meetings. Would still like to have a small pool of people who would be willing to help out recording the meetings on occasion.

It's been suggested at least twice that AT NO COST TO THE CITY the recordings could be done by the clerk so that everyone would have access to these meetings. So far, council has not agreed to it. So it's up to any citizen to record the meetings to share with the community as is permitted by law:

"Every public body shall keep full and accurate minutes of all official meetings, including any closed sessions held pursuant to G.S. 143-318.11. Such minutes may be in written form or, at the option of the public body, may be in the form of sound or video and sound recordings."

"Any person may photograph, film, tape-record, or otherwise reproduce any part of a meeting required to be open."

...government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
